While sitting with my Mom tonight I chanced to pick up her 2010 Guidepost day by day. Today’s reading spoke of a child who received a sleeping bag and delighted in squirming around the house in it. It was blue thus the title ‘Great blue slug’. The family had come to accept the appearance of the great blue slug periodically. In this particular case the writer was watching TV when the great blue slug suddenly blocked his view. The slug then spoke ‘Merry Christmas’ so the interrupted TV show seemed a small thing in the face of the expressed love.
Parents see this sort of thing on a regular basis and you learn to go with the flow as those moments of wonder and love are too precious to worry over a blocked TV show or anything else being disrupted.
It occurred to me as I sat with Mom that I’m on the other end. The ‘great blue slug’ in my life is my Mom in her soft blue bathrobe trying to find a comfortable position and it is only my knitting that is interrupted.
